What is a Drip Rate?
The drip rate (measured in drops per minute, or gtt/min) is the speed at which intravenous (IV) fluid or medication is administered to a patient via gravity drip. It is essential when electronic infusion pumps are unavailable or for specific clinical scenarios.

How to Use
Enter the total volume to be infused, the total time for the infusion, and the drop factor of the IV tubing (drops/mL). The calculator provides the required drip rate in drops per minute (gtt/min).
Case Example
Order: Infuse 1000 mL Normal Saline over 8 hours. Tubing drop factor is 15 gtt/mL.
Calculation: Total drops = 1000 * 15 = 15,000 gtt. Total minutes = 8 * 60 = 480 min. Rate = 15,000 / 480 = 31.25.
Interpretation: Set the IV drip rate to approximately 31 drops per minute.
